Each CaseCatalyst competition is built around a real company solving important problems in emerging markets. Below you can learn more about the startups we’ve partnered with so far, the challenges students worked on, and what founders and leaders had to say about the experience.
Founded in 2018, Kapsule is a healthcare data company focused on turning fragmented medical information across Africa into clean, usable insights. By integrating with existing EMR and ERP systems, Kapsule aggregates and standardizes data so that pharmaceutical companies, CROs, and healthcare providers can make more informed, evidence–based decisions.
In markets where substandard or fake medicines are a serious risk and reliable data has historically been scarce, Kapsule’s infrastructure helps organizations forecast demand, plan clinical research, and allocate resources far more effectively.
The 2024 Winter case asked students to design Kapsule’s global expansion strategy into markets like India, Indonesia, and Brazil. Teams explored how Kapsule could scale its proven African model while maintaining affordability, data quality, and impact as it entered new health systems and regulatory environments.

Co-Founder and Co-CEO, Kapsule
“CaseCatalyst did outstanding work for Kapsule. They quickly absorbed complex context about our business and assembled a team of interns who were sharp, thoughtful, and clearly committed to finding the best solutions. Their analysis directly informed how we think about geographic expansion and surfaced actionable opportunities we hadn’t considered. I would recommend CaseCatalyst to any startup that wants a fresh, intelligent, and unbiased look at their business to identify real growth opportunities.”
Founded in 2019, Curacel is reshaping insurance in Africa by building the digital rails that power the entire value chain. Instead of acting as an insurer, Curacel provides the infrastructure for claims automation, fraud detection, embedded insurance, and real-time premium collection and payouts.
Curacel’s AI–enabled tools reduce processing times and fraud losses, helping insurers move away from manual, paper-based operations and toward fast, transparent, data-driven decisions that build trust with customers.
With operations across eight African countries and backing from investors such as Y Combinator, Tencent, and Google, Curacel has become a category leader in insurance infrastructure for emerging markets.
The 2025 Summer case centered on Curacel’s expansion into North Africa and the Middle East. Students explored how Curacel could leverage different types of large language models (LLMs) to enhance automation and decision–making while staying compliant with local data–hosting and regulatory requirements.
